David Njoku A Candidate For The Franchise Tag
3 years agoCleveland Browns impending free-agent tight end David Njoku could receive the franchise tag before the March 8 deadline, according to a league source. The tag for tight ends is estimated to be around $11 million in 2022. Njoku is projected at a $6.7 million annual value, according to Spotrac, but the franchise tag would give the Browns more time to work on a long-term extension. The former first-round pick in 2017 has taken a back seat to Austin Hooper on offense, and the Browns also drafted Harrison Bryant in the fourth round in 2020. In 16 games in 2021, Njoku caught 36 of his 53 targets for 475 yards and four touchdowns and could continue to be a valuable one-two punch at TE alongside Hooper if he returns to Cleveland.
