David Njoku, Browns Discussing Contract Extension

2 years agoCleveland Browns tight end David Njoku was levied with the franchise tag last month, but per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the two sides are actively engaged in a contract extension for the 25-year-old. Njoku appeared in 16 games (11 starts) last season and compiled 36 receptions for 475 yards, tying his career high with four touchdowns. Selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Njoku has delivered tantalizing upside since entering the league, but his role within the Browns' passing game has fluctuated due to performance and injury. With Austin Hooper joining the Titans during the offseason, Njoku is set to step into top tight end duties for Cleveland next year with Deshaun Watson under center.--Jesse Borek
