4 years agoNew York Mets manager Luis Rojas says the team has not committed to a "hard" innings limit for any of their starting pitchers coming off of the short 2020 season, but they will pay close attention. One such starting pitcher that could be subject to an innings limit, should the Mets go that route, is David Peterson. Peterson is coming off a solid 2020 rookie campaign in which he posted a 3.44 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and a 40:24 K:BB in 49 2/3 innings pitched over nine starts. Over the past three seasons in the majors and minors, Peterson has never topped out at more than 129 innings. With the Mets addressing starting pitching depth by re-signing Marcus Stroman and trading for Joey Lucchesi and Carlos Carrasco, Peterson could be pulled from the starting rotation when Noah Syndergaard (elbow) returns from the injured list later this summer. Additionally, should the Mets trade for or sign another starting pitcher before the 2021 campaign begins, Peterson may find himself in a timeshare with Lucchesi at the back end of the rotation. Fantasy managers rostering Peterson should be prepared to temper innings expectations should the Mets opt to tread carefully with the 25-year-old in 2021.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
