David Peterson To Have Potentially Season-Ending Surgery
3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson (oblique, foot) will have to undergo potentially season-ending surgery after breaking a bone in his foot, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Peterson was already on the injured list with a right oblique strain, and on Friday night while walking through the clubhouse, Peterson sustained a "Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal," which will require surgery. The Mets do not have an official timeline for how long this could keep Peterson out, but DiComo reports that this type of injury typically takes six-to-eight weeks to recover from, and when you add in the build-up program to get Peterson throwing again, the season could be over before he can return. Peterson had been inconsistent on the mound this year, but did have some value as a matchup-dependent streaming option. At this point there's no reason he should still be rostered in any format.
