4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson allowed six earned runs and seven hits, including two home runs, over four-plus innings of work in the Mets' 8-2 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday. Peterson was roughed up in the first inning for four runs but did settle into a nice groove over the next three innings, including striking out five, relying primarily on his slider. He was pulled in the fifth inning after allowing the first two batters to reach base, both of whom would eventually score on a three-run home run by J.T. Realmuto off of reliever Jacob Barnes. Peterson is coming off of a solid 2020 rookie campaign in which he posted a 3.44 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 40:24 K:BB in 49 2/3 innings pitched over nine starts, though his 2020 metrics do suggest regression in 2021. As a result, Peterson can provide starting pitching bench depth who can be streamed based on matchups. He should provide decent ratios, and wins, although he has limited strikeout upside. Peterson is next scheduled to face these same Phillies at home on Tuesday. Managers may want to keep Peterson on the bench for that contest, given Wednesday's results.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
