4 years agoAlthough it did not constitute a quality start, New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson picked up the win in the Mets 8-4 victory over the Marlins on Saturday. Peterson (2-1) went five innings against Miami, allowing only two earned runs, three walks, and four hits, while striking out three. He now owns a 3.78 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 14 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings pitched. The rookie continues to make a case to remain in the Mets rotation once Marcus Stroman (leg) returns from his stint on the injured list. With both Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello largely ineffective thus far, Peterson looks to be the best option as the Mets fifth starter going forward. That said, the large contracts doled out to Wacha and Porcello in the offseason makes it more likely than not that Peterson will return to a long relief role, despite his performance. Owners in deep leagues should, however, continue to ride Peterson as a streaming option while he remains in the Mets rotation.
