4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson pitched six effective innings on Friday in Grapefruit League action against the Nationals. Peterson allowed only four hits and two earned runs while striking out two. He lowered his spring ERA to 3.75 in 12 innings pitched, though his spring K:BB stands at a less-than-impressive 3:3. With the injury to Carlos Carrasco (hamstring), Peterson will start the season in the Mets rotation as their fourth starter behind Taijuan Walker. Peterson is coming off of a solid 2020 rookie campaign in which he posted a 3.44 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 40:24 K:BB in 49 2/3 innings pitched over nine starts. As a result, Peterson makes for a decent late-round draft selection who can serve as starting pitching bench depth who can be utilized based on matchups in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues. He can provide decent ratios, and wins, although he has limited strikeout upside. Of note, though, because the Mets may eventually place Peterson in a timeshare with pitcher Joey Lucchesi, his 2021 fantasy outlook is somewhat capped unless the Mets suffer further injuries to their starting rotation corps.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
