7 years agoNew York Mets third baseman David Wright (back, shoulder) admitted that his playing future is uncertain after missing all of the 2017 season after undergoing rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder and surgery to remove bone spurs and fix a herniated disc in his back. "It really hurts to say this, but I obviously can't be relied on to go out there and do what I've done throughout my career," Wright said Friday. "That is a tough thing to say." Wright is optimistic that his health will be better in 2018, but he won't know how he feels throwing a baseball until closer to spring training. Because Wright's health is such a big question mark, infielder Asdrubal Cabrera is slated to open the year as the starting third baseman. Wright has played in just 75 games the past three seasons, and it's unrealistic to rely on him for fantasy purposes in any format.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
