4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia is a candidate for a spot start if the team opts to go with a six-man rotation coming out of the weekend. Garcia pitched five innings at the alternate site earlier this week and would be fully rested and a possible option, as a member of the taxi squad, to start on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday for New York if they want to get their other starters some additional rest. The 21-year-old impressed in his first big-league action last season, posting a strong 33:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio despite a 4.98 ERA. If the Yankees opt to go with Garcia, he'd be slated to pitch against either the Indians or the Orioles. Baltimore would be the softer of the two matchups, as they've posted the fifth-worst strikeout rate in the majors so far.--Tim Capurso
