Deivi Garcia’s Strong Spring Continues
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia pitched well again on Sunday, throwing three innings with one run (zero earned) allowed and two strikeouts. Garcia now owns an impressive 2.25 ERA over three spring appearances in 2021, and his average fastball velocity is up 0.7 mph since last season. With Gerrit Cole, Corey Kluber, Jameson Taillon, and Jordan Montgomery likely firmly entrenched in the team's starting rotation, Domingo German and Garcia are locked in a battle for the remaining job in the team's starting rotation this spring, and neither has gained a performance edge so far. German has the logistical edge on Garcia with fewer minor league options remaining and less to gain from more minor league starts, so fantasy managers should expect the 28-year-old to claim the job barring an injury.
