Denny Hamlin is A Must-Start at Daytona
5 years agoTwo-time Daytona 500 winner and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin is striving to become the first driver since Sterling Marlin in 1994 and 1995 to win back-to-back Daytona 500 events. In 28 starts at DIS, Hamlin has nine top-10 finishes and 442 laps led, which are the most of any active drivers. Hamlin also has led laps in eight of the last 10 Daytona races and finished fifth in this year’s Busch Clash. Hamlin has placed in the top 10 in seven of the last 12 DIS races, showcasing his proficiency at the Florida track. Hamlin starts 21st and is one of the most expensive drivers to place in lineups this week, however, the equipment and his recent history makes him a must-start, especially with the place differential he will gain.
