Denver’s Crowded Backfield Complicates Melvin Gordon In 2020
4 years agoWhen healthy, running back Melvin Gordon should be the Denver Broncos lead back in 2020. But unfortunately for Gordon, with a rib injury lingering ahead of Week 1, Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman have been able to split first-team repetitions. A timeshare severely cut into Gordon’s production load last year when he compiled 612 yards on the ground for eight touchdowns alongside Austin Ekeler. Still projected as a top-20 running back entering the year, Gordon has the track record to back up his ADP, but he may not have the path to carries. With so many carries to be spread around in Denver, Gordon presents a risky top-50 selection, albeit one that has the potential to pay off should he remain healthy and completely usurp the duo of Lindsay and Freeman.
