Derwin James Reaches Four-Year Extension With Chargers
2 years agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are signing safety Derwin James to a four-year contract extension that averages $19.1 million per year on Wednesday, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history, according to sources. The deal includes a record-breaking $42 million guaranteed. James will make $29 million in the first year of the deal. The 26-year-old former first-round pick had been holding out of training camp due to his contract situation, but the Bolts will be able to get the two-time Pro Bowler back on the field now. In his two full seasons in the NFL, James has 100-plus tackles. In 15 games in 2021, he had 118 tackles (75 solo), seven tackles for loss, seven QB hits, two sacks, two interceptions, five passes defensed and three forced fumbles to finish as the No. 4 fantasy defensive back in IDP leagues.
