6 years agoRecently, the thought on current New York Mets (and former Cincinnati Reds) catcher Devin Mesoraco was that if he could get consistent playing time we might see him develop a rhythm again. He wasn’t getting that playing time in Cincinnati, but he is in New York, and that thought is proving true thus far. On Saturday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Mesoraco crushed a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, endearing himself to the Mets faithful. Perhaps more importantly though, it was Mesoraco’s third home run in only seven games played as a New York Mets. Mesoraco is only hitting .190 as a Met, but does own a .346 OBP and .619 SLG for a fantastic .965 OPS. That clearly won’t last forever if he’s only going to hit .190 – but it’s also becoming clearer he has much more left in the tank than anticipated. Given the overall lack of fantasy production at the catcher position, Mesoraco’s ownership percentage is about to skyrocket.--John Smith
