DeVonta Smith Dealing With Groin Injury
2 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (groin) sat out of training camp practice on Thursday due to a groin injury. The injury was reported as minor, though, so Smith may be able to return to practice in short order. Smith played in 17 games in his rookie season in 2021, catching 64 of his 104 targets for 916 yards and five touchdowns. There were questions concerning his durability at the next level because of his smallish frame (6-foot, 170 pounds), but that wasn't an issue in his first NFL season. The Eagles added No. 1 receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, which will take valuable targets away, especially if Philly remains a run-heavy offense. A lot will also depend on whether quarterback Jalen Hurts takes a step forward as a passer. Smith is a WR3 with upside in Year 2.
