Diminished Role Leaves Jamaal Williams A Risky Choice For Week 6
6 years agoGreen Bay running back Jamaal Williams has seen his role slashed from the start of the year when he was touted by the organization as a bell-cow back. Heading into a Week 6 game against the vulnerable run defense of the San Francisco 49ers, it seems doubtful that he will see enough volume to have much fantasy relevance. Williams has seen his touches go to both running back Aaron Jones, who returned from suspension in Week 3, and converted wide receiver Ty Montgomery. Although many touted Williams over Jones on account of his superior pass blocking, Williams’ ineffective rushing has made that argument increasingly ridiculous. Williams was out touched by Jones in Week 5 and Williams could see even more of his carries taken away. Green Bay does seem to favor Williams on the goal line, so there may be some hope he can score some touchdowns. However, Green Bay throws as much or more than anyone at the goal line, so this strategy is still a long shot. Williams should not be started in Week 6 and he can safely be dropped in many leagues.
