Dion Sims Could Be Roster Casualty
7 years agoChicago Bears tight end Dion Sims, who was signed to an $18 million deal over three years with $10 million guaranteed, could be a candidate for release this offseason after catching just 15 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. The Bears expected Sims to be much more involved in the passing game after he caught a career-high 26 passes for four touchdowns in 2016 with Miami. Sims was targeted only 29 times all year and was targeted three times or more in just three games and had zero targets in seven games. Rookie Adam Shaheen became the team's main pass-catching tight end late in the season, leaving Sims as the main blocking tight end. If Sims returns in 2018, Chicago will certainly expect more production in the passing game, but with Shaheen having more long-term upside, Sims wouldn't be on the fantasy radar. His best bet is likely to be released and latch on with another club, where he could find a more consistent role in the offense.
