3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German struck out five batters over four innings of work in Saturday's no-decision against the Marlins. German allowed two runs on two hits while issuing a pair of walks. He was pulled from the game for a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded after just 66 pitches, largely due to the Yankees wanting to breakthrough in a tie game. The underlying numbers say that German's stuff was great against Miami, as he generated 17 whiffs, 13 of them on his off-speed offerings. The 28-year-old has been very effective over his last three starts, pitching to a 3.00 ERA in 15 innings, albeit with no wins to show for it. German has ditched his ineffective sinker and gone with a fastball-curveball-changeup mix to great results, posting a 35.1 percent strikeout rate and 20.1 percent swinging-strike rate. It's a small sample, but he seems to have discovered something and is looking like a great fantasy play in his next outing against the strikeout-prone Mariners.--Tim Capurso
