7 years agoThe New York Mets activated first baseman Dominic Smith from the disabled list on Sunday; he was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Smith essentially had a wasted spring training after suffering from a sprained quad early that he never quite recovered from until now. Smith already seemed to be falling out of favor with the Mets when the team went out and signed first baseman Adrian Gonzalez this winter, and now he may even be further behind with infielder Wilmer Flores playing well at first sporadically. That’s not to say that Smith won’t tear up Triple-A and not give the Mets a choice but to play the youngster over Gonzalez (and potentially Flores), but if that does happen, it won’t be for awhile.--John Smith
