Dominic Smith Fills Up Box Score Again On Thursday
4 years agoNew York Mets outfielder/first baseman Dominic Smith went 3-for-5 with a double and triple, drove in two, and scored two runs in the Mets' 10-6 win over the Phillies on Thursday. Smith is now batting .338 on the season with a 1.034 OPS (third in the National League) to go with eight home runs, 40 RBI, and 18 doubles despite only starting 40 games this season. Smith is now ranked second in Mets history (tied with Pete Alonso in 2019) for the most extra base hits by a Mets player through the first 50 games of a season (27). The Mets will continue to find ways to keep Smith's bat in the lineup as they battle down the stretch for a playoff birth. Smith, who has worked his way into the National League MVP conversation, should remain active for managers in all formats.
