Dominic Smith Plays Outfield Again, Picks Up Three Hits
6 years agoNew York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith has struggled tremendously going back to the late summer of 2017, but the former top prospect had himself a night on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. After three straight hitless games, Smith busted out of the slump by finishing 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two runs scored. This certainly doesn’t mean Smith is all of a sudden ready to become a fantasy asset, but it’s a great sign for the beleaguered 23-year-old. It should be noted that Smith once again played left field instead of first base. This is pure speculation, but it certainly seems possible the Mets may be looking to groom Smith in the outfield so they can attempt to keep both him and mashing prospect Peter Alonso in the lineup upon the latter’s eventual call to the big leagues. At this rate, it could only be another week or so before Smith gains outfield eligibility on most platforms.
