4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith should see an increase in regular playing time due to outfielder Yoenis Cespedes' decision to opt out of the 2020 season. So far in 2020, Smith has started only four games and registered only 12 at-bats. He has hit one home run, driven in five runs, while batting .250. With Cespedes gone for the season, Smith's bat can become more involved in the Mets offense. In 2019, Smith hit .282/.355/.525 with 11 homers and 25 RBI in just 177 at-bats. Smith, better defensively in the outfield than J.D. Davis, can be inserted into left field. Davis can then shift to third base, with Jeff McNeil moving to second base and Robinson Cano serving as designated hitter. Alternatively, the Mets can also choose to keep their current defensive alignment intact and simply insert Smith into the DH role replacing Cespedes. With potentially more consistent at-bats for Smith on the horizon, he now becomes fantasy relevant in mixed leagues hitting in the middle of the Mets lineup.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
