4 years agoNew York Mets outfielder/first baseman Dominic Smith went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double in the Mets' 7-6 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. The Mets appear to have finally realized the 25-year old Smith needed regular playing time for him to reach his full potential. The Mets' 2013 first-round pick is now boasting a .328/.393/.639 line with seven home runs, 17 doubles, and 32 RBI. To put his breakout in perspective, Smith is now first in the National League with 17 doubles, second with a .639 slugging percentage, fourth with a 1.032 OPS, and sixth with 32 RBI, despite starting the season as a part-time player. The Mets will likely continue to find ways to keep Smith's bat in the lineup as they battle down the stretch to get one of the playoff spots in the NL. Although Smith may see a day off from time-to-time, he will still get a good amount of playing time either in left field, at designated hitter, or at first base where he is defensively superior to Pete Alonso.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
