Dominic Smith’s OPS Falls To .547
6 years agoWith the way New York Mets first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith is struggling this season, you might actually have to admit attempting to get anything out of Adrian Gonzalez at the start of the year was actually a good idea. The former top prospect has been an abomination for the Mets, and that continued in an 0-7 effort across two games in a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Smith now owns a pathetic .185/.209/.338 slash line with one home run, six runs scored, and one (that’s right, one) RBI across 65 Major League at-bats this season. In case you weren’t counting, that’s a cool .547 OPS. It would seem as if it’s only a matter of time before mashing first base prospect Peter Alonso displaces Smith as the first baseman of the future in Queens.
