Donovan Solano Lands With Reds
3 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year, $4.5 million deal on Wednesday. The Reds are set at the keystone with Jonathan India, who won National League Rookie of the Year last season, so Solano will likely serve in mostly a utility infield role in his new home. Cincinnati traded third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners earlier in the week. Kyle Farmer, Jose Barrero and Mike Moustakas will be competing for jobs on the left side of the infield alongside Solano. The 34-year-old infielder has had some success against left-handers in the last three seasons with the San Francisco Giants, so Solano could at least be on the strong side of a platoon at either short or third in 2022. Solano hit .308/.354/.435 with 14 homers and 83 RBI in 236 games for the Gigantes the last three seasons.
