Drew Smyly Departs Early With Apparent Finger Injury
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants left-hander Drew Smyly was lifted after four innings of work Saturday due to what appears to be an injury to a finger on his pitching hand. With Smyly leaving early, no Giants starter has gone five innings in the team’s first nine games. Prior to his departure, the southpaw put together a promising performance that included seven strikeouts and 51 of his 71 pitches going for strikes. While he did not begin the year in the San Francisco rotation, it’s likely that he’ll have an opportunity to continue starting, whenever that next opportunity will be. Owners will want to be cautious after the southpaw compiled a 5.69 ERA in 21 starts last year, but there’s reason for optimism should his ailment not prove derailing.
