Drew Smyly Designated For Assignment
5 years agoTexas Rangers pitcher Drew Smyly was designated for assignment Thursday, effectively ending an unfortunate tenure with the club. Smyly had not pitched since 2016 due to Tommy John surgery. In 13 games with Texas this season, nine of them starts, Smyly allowed a whopping 19 home runs in just 51 1/3 innings. He also walked 34 batters while striking out 52 and posting an 8.42 ERA. Smyly has not had fantasy value in any format since struggling right out of the gate in April and lost his rotation spot twice this year. It's hard to see him making it back to fantasy relevance for some time, if ever.
