Drew Smyly Excellent In Phillies Debut
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Drew Smyly allowed one run in six innings while taking a no-decision at Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon. Smyly struck out eight batters while only allowing four hits and two walks in his first start since signing with the Phillies on Thursday. Fantasy owners shouldn't make too much of one start as this performance actually lowered Smyly's ERA to 7.69 and the eight strikeouts match his season-high. His xFIP coming into the game was a dreadful 6.36 and he is allowing almost 50 percent hard contact with a below-average strikeout rate. He'll face a tough test in his next start against a Braves team that has a team OPS over .800 vs left-handed pitching.
