4 years agoSan Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly has progressed to throwing off of flat ground, which will allow the club to re-evaluate him this weekend. Smyly has landed on the injured list with a finger strain, having compiled 11 strikeouts over his first 8 ⅓ innings this season. Having entered the starting rotation, Smyly last appeared Aug. 1, and is yet to have a timeline established for when he may rejoin the club. The combination of injury and low pitch counts should keep owners apprehensive as it pertains to Smyly, even when he eventually does get back on a big league mound.--Jesse Borek
