6 years agoTexas Rangers left-handed starting pitcher Drew Smyly was touched up for five earned runs, six hits and two walks with three strikeouts and two more homers allowed over just three innings in a loss against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday. He threw 34 of his 54 pitches for strikes, and managed first-pitch strikes to just eight of the 16 batters he faced while his ERA rose to 8.40. It's uncertain how much longer the Rangers can stick with him in the lineup. Rookie Joe Palumbo was impressive over the weekend in strong debut against the A's, and might be an option if the team decides to get away from Smyly.--Daniel Dobish
