3 years agoDustin Poirier was unsuccessful in his bid to regain the lightweight championship at UFC 269's main event on Saturday, suffering a third-round submission loss to the reigning champion in Charles Oliveira. Normally known for dominating the standup game with anyone in the division, Poirier landed 58 significant strikes (69 total strikes) and was out-struck by Oliveria, who landed 73 significant strikes. It was obvious the all-time submission leader would try to take it to the mat to submit Poirier. A black belt himself, Poirier stuffed all six of Oliveria's takedown tries. The champion was able to eventually lock in his game plan, ending Poirier's night with the submission. Poirier is still a top-tier talent and should always be considered for fantasy lineups.--Matt Bricker - RotoBaller
