Dwayne Haskins Keeping Pace In QB Battle
5 years agoWashington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins has completed 15 of 28 passes for 231 yards, a touchdown, and two picks in two games of preseason action. He has been on the field more than veteran Case Keenum. While it figures that the Washington coaching staff would prefer to get the rookie as many reps as possible over a known quantity like Keenum, the fact that Haskins hasn't looked totally in over his head has to at least keep him in consideration for the starting job out of camp. That said, the Redskins got off to a 6-3 start last year before swan diving to a 7-9 finish, and they have to believe they can compete again in 2019 behind a quality defense. Unless Haskins proves he gives them the best chance to "win now," Keenum is still likely to be the Week 1 starter. The Redskins' third preseason game on Thursday should provide more insight into just where the coaching staff stands.
