5 years agoBoston Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez has been designated for assignment, announced the team on Monday. They also optioned pitcher Hector Velazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket and recalled pitcher Ryan Weber and utility man Sam Travis. Nunez hasn't been of much use this year for Boston, hitting .228 with a .548 OPS. They'll have 10 days to decide whether to trade, release, or demote the 32-year-old infielder. If he lands on another roster, it will likely be in limited fashion, thus rendering him useless in fantasy. Velazquez has had a rough go of it this year, sitting at 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA across 45 innings of work as a spot starter and out of the bullpen. Weber has made a handful of spot starts earlier this season and has a 1.40 WHIP over 19 1/3 innings, while Travis is recalled after spending parts of June in the bigs. Neither he or Weber have any fantasy relevance and shouldn't even sniff your radar.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
