3 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz recorded only his second blown save of the season on Sunday against the Pirates. After pitching on Saturday night, and picking up his 19th save of the season, Diaz was called on to get a five-out save on Sunday by manager Luis Rojas. Diaz was one out away from securing a 5-4 victory for the Mets, when he gave up three straight hits, allowing the Pirates to score twice and defeat the Mets 6-5. In his 1 1/3 innings pitched, Diaz gave up two earned runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out two. As stated, it was only his second blown save of the season for which a large part could be blamed on bullpen mismanagement by Rojas. With the Mets headed into the All-Star break, it was a curious decision to ask Diaz to get five outs a day after he pitched with all hands on deck in the bullpen. Diaz finishes the first half of the 2021 campaign with 19 saves in 21 opportunities to go with a 3.25 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 36 IP. Despite the hiccup on Sunday, Diaz remains one of the best relievers in baseball. He should remain active in all fantasy formats.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
