4 years agoNew York Mets right-handed relief pitcher Edwin Diaz picked up his sixth save of the season in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Nationals on Thursday. Diaz was a little shaky in the outing allowing two hits and one earned run in his one inning of work, but he got the job done. Diaz has now converted six saves in nine opportunities on the season. As previously reported, notwithstanding his previous ninth-inning meltdowns (both this season and in 2019) and a tenuous hold on the closer job throughout the season, Diaz has rebounded solidly. He owns a 1.80 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in just 25 innings pitched. While his walk rate remains an issue, Mets fans and managers can, perhaps, be cautiously optimistic that Diaz has overcome the mental issues he has had in the ninth inning as we look forward to 2021. Diaz remains an elite relief option in all formats who can provide strikeouts, solid ratios, and a save or two in the final three games of the season. If he has, in fact, overcome his ninth-inning struggles, Diaz stands to be one of the first closers off the board in 2021 drafts given his tremendous upside and ratios.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
