3 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz picked up his 23rd save of the season on Wednesday in the Mets 2-1 win over the Braves. Diaz was called on to preserve a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning and promptly allowed a ground-rule double to Abraham Almonte. Following a fly-out, Diaz allowed a one-out single to Ehire Adrianza in which Almonte attempted to score. Michael Conforto saved the day by throwing a bullet from right field and Almonte was nailed at the plate for the second out. Diaz subsequently got Pablo Sandoval to fly out for the final out. It was a gut-wrenching save for Diaz, who has now posted four consecutive scoreless outings, although Wednesday's performance was one to forget. Diaz remains one of the top closer options in baseball, though he is prone to an epic blown save every so often. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Diaz despite his occasional anxiety-inducing performances.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
