3 years agoAfter blowing his last two save opportunities, New York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz finally converted his 29th save of the season on Sunday in the Mets 7-6 win over the Yankees. Called on the preserve a one-run lead in the ninth inning, Diaz got the job done despite allowing two baserunners on a hit and walk. He struck out two in his one inning of work as well. Diaz now has 29 saves in 35 save opportunities (six blown saves) to go with a 3.81 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and an 82:23 K:BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings pitched on the season. He remains a top-tier fantasy reliever based on his firm grasp on the closer role in New York and high strikeout totals, notwithstanding his occasional epic meltdowns and stress-inducing saves. Clearly a better closer in fantasy than real life, Diaz should remain active in all fantasy formats through the final 18 games of the regular season.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
