3 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz worked a clean ninth inning on Wednesday to pick up his 24th save of the season in the Mets 8-7 win over the Nationals. It was Diaz's first save (and save opportunity) since July 28, a result of the Mets recent struggles. Despite occasional and legendary meltdowns, Diaz remains one of the top closing options in baseball given his strikeout potential and firm grip on the closer role in New York. On the season, Diaz owns a somewhat inflated 4.03 ERA, a 2.39 FIP, a 1.19 WHIP, along with 65 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched. He has converted 24 of 28 save opportunities. He should remain active in all formats.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
