4 years agoIn his first appearance of the young 2021 season, New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz recorded the win in the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday. Diaz pitched the top of the ninth inning, allowing only a walk while striking out one. Diaz is coming off of a very impressive 2020 season in which he registered six saves while posting the highest strikeout rate of his career. Thursday's uneventful outing is, hopefully, a sign that 2021 will be a continuation of his 2020 dominance and not a return to his poor 2019 campaign. Diaz lines up to be one of the top closer options in baseball while pitching for a Mets team that should be in playoff contention this season.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
