2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday that running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) is on track to return in Week 1 of the regular season against the Chicago Bears. Mitchell is unlikely to play in the preseason finale on Thursday against the Houston Texans. Regardless, the 24-year-old second-year back should open the 2022 regular season as the team's go-to running back behind quarterback Trey Lance. Mitchell led the team in rushing in his first NFL season in 2021 with 963 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 207 attempts over 11 regular season games. Trusting a Shanahan RB is a scary thought in fantasy, especially given all of the options behind Mitchell, but he's the most attractive 49ers RB in fantasy as a low-end RB2.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
