Elly De La Cruz Continues To Impress
2 years agoCincinnati Reds shortstop prospect Elly De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a solo home run for Double-A Chattanooga on Saturday. De La Cruz, one of the Reds top prospects was promoted to Double-A on July 22 and hasn't missed a beat since his ascension. On the season, the 20-year-old is hitting .297 with 22 homers, 56 RBI and 32 stolen bases between High-A and Double-A. The Reds have a flurry of top shortstop prospects that includes Matt McLain in Double-A, but he has been shifted to second base to accommodate De La Cruz. The club also acquired shortstops Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo from the Mariners in the Luis Castillo trade, but it appears they are devoted to keeping De La Cruz at shortstop for the time being. Regardless of where he winds up on the diamond, De La Cruz offers across the board talent and he continues to open eyes at every level. The Reds have no reason to promote him this season, but there is a true chance that he could make his big-league debut at some point in 2023 for the rebuilding Reds and dynasty-league managers should start taking note on the prospect.
