Eric Haase Starting At Catcher Saturday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers catcher/outfielder Eric Haase will get his first start of the season Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, catching and batting seventh, according to MLB.com. The 29-year-old was a pleasant surprise last season when he slashed .231/.286/.459 with 22 HRs over 98 games. During yesterday's Opening Day, Haase was used as a pinch-hitter and later slugged a ninth-inning home run off Liam Hendriks to tie the game. With the Tigers deploying three catchers in the early stages of the season, it'll be harder for Haase to get into the lineup, but his ability to play the outfield will help. With Dylan Cease going for the White Sox, it isn't the best opportunity for fantasy managers to stream the backstop, who struggled against right-handers last season, producing just a .661 OPS. There are better options elsewhere.
