Eric Hosmer Comes Up Clutch
4 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer smacked a game-tying ninth-inning homer Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds to spark a furious comeback victory. Entering the contest hitting an abysmal .125 in June with one extra-base hit, Hosmer's clutch two-run blast was his first long ball since May 27. The offensive drought has dropped the 31-year-old's slash to .253/.312/.367 with six homers, four steals and 56 runs-plus-RBI through 250 plate appearances. Hosmer's .285 xBA provides steady average support for fantasy squads, but he'll never possess the prototypical first baseman profile. If he continues to struggle, Hosmer could lose playing time to infielder Jake Cronenworth and utilityman Jurickson Profar, further diluting his redraft value.
