3 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer Sunday against the Washington Nationals. Hosmer's blast in the fourth inning kicked off the Friars scoring in a wild contest that ended up an 8-7 loss. After a mostly miserable first half, the 31-year-old veteran has been on fire, registering a 1.116 OPS with two homers, nine runs and 11 RBI since the calendar flipped to July. The hot streak has lifted his slash to .273/.334/.393 to accompany eight homers, five steals and 80 runs-plus-RBI. While he lacks the slugging desired from a first baseman, Hosmer's .277 xBA provides a solid floor to pair with respectable counting stats. Likely available in shallower formats, Hosmer offers a low-risk proposition for offense while he's hot.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
