Eric Hosmer Smashes Fifth Homer
3 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. In a thrilling contest, Hosmer's long ball in the sixth inning temporarily put the Friars ahead in the eventual 6-5 loss. The 31-year-old has had a solid campaign, slashing .293/.350/.427 with five homers, four steals and 45 runs-plus-RBI over 180 plate appearances. However, with a 0.2 degree launch angle, he holds a meager barrel rate of three percent, resulting in just 12 extra-base hits. While he'll never possess the prototypical power of first basemen, Hosmer's broad category contributions make him a reasonable fantasy option in deeper and NL-only leagues.
