Eric Hosmer Stumbles To Finish Line
5 years agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer finished his 2019 season Sunday with a .265/.310/.425 slash, 22 homers and 171 runs-plus-RBI. The 29-year-old was on pace to set career highs in homers and RBI heading into the final month but fell flat along with most of the Friars offense. Hosmer’s .516 OPS in September dipped his season-long WAR to -0.5, marking two consecutive disappointing seasons with the Padres. After appearing in 160 games, Hosmer still has at least three years under contract in San Diego and should continue being a veteran presence on a young team. For fantasy owners, Hosmer’s campaign was palatable given his basement-level ADP but he’ll never be the prototypical slugger at the first base. He’ll likely enter 2020 outside of the top-15 options at the position
