Eric Lauer Looking For Strong Finish
6 years agoFacing the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night, San Diego Padres starter Eric Lauer will look to capitalize on his second-to-last opportunity in 2018. One of the Friars top pitching prospects, Lauer has endured an up-and-down start to his career, posting a 4.74 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 in 21 starts. Although there’s plenty room for improvement, Lauer’s headline numbers mask a commendable recovery after his disastrous debut. Since June, Lauer’s allowed two or less earned runs in 9-of-14 starts, including a 1.29 ERA since returning from the DL on August 30. He is not a fantasy option against a potent Dodgers lineup but could be a deep streaming candidate versus the San Francisco Giants on September 26. If he harnesses his control, Lauer should be in contention for what’s developing into a highly competitive Padres starting rotation gig in 2019.
