7 years agoWashington Nationals top pitching prospect Erick Fedde was optioned to the team's Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse on Thursday. He was a possibility for the team's fifth rotation spot, but the signing of Jeremy Hellickson, plus the fact that fellow rookie A.J. Cole was out of options, made that unlikely. This spring Fedde pitched 14.2 innings and struck out 11 batters over six outings. His fastball stayed in the mid-90s, which was encouraging given his early shutdown in 2017 due to a sore elbow. Fedde was mostly used as a reliever last season, but will be kept in the minors this year as a starter. He'll be up in the bigs at some point, so keep an eye on what the club does with him.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
