3 years agoKansas City Royals outfield prospect Erick Pena, who struggled in the Rookie League at 18 years old last year when he hit .161/.256/.314 with 57 strikeouts and 15 walks, has a more refined approach at the plate this year and is working to repair his swing mechanics. He has widened his stance at the plate and altered his posture, which has led to "a better hip-hinge position," according to hitting instructor Drew Saylor. Pena admitting to pressing and swinging harder when he got into a funk in 2021. The Royals No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has been posting better exit velocities, and his bat and power are his best tools. Some scouts have compared him to a young Carlos Beltran in terms of skills and potential.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
