6 years agoIt was a night to remember for Seattle Mariners starter Erik Swanson on Wednesday despite a losing effort. Making his first ever major league start, he held the Cleveland Indians to two hits and no walks, with his only blemish on the night coming off the bat of Jake Bauers for a solo home run. Swanson struck out five on the evening and needed only 81 pitches to get through six full frames of work. The offense failed to score a run for the first time this season, and Swanson certainly pitched well enough to earn a victory. The 25-year-old's strong outing may need to be taken with a grain of salt against an underwhelming Indians lineup, but it's encouraging nonetheless. Swanson's next test will come on the road against the Padres, and it'll prove to be a true test of his pitching ability. AL-only players could take a flier on the right-hander, but until we see him string together a few solid starts, he can be left off the mixed league radar.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
